Will Congress Finally Get Oxygen From These Protests?

The Congress party had been struggling to gain momentum since the onset of the BJP government at the center in 2014. The problem had been with the fact that Rahul Gandhi could never really project himself as a worthy opponent to lead Congress and also counter the BJP.

There were multiple opportunities that were presented to the Congress party to fire up protests against the India government, but not many of them were capitalised. But now, finally, the Congress party has found a stable platform to fire, and this came from the cockroach janta party movement.

This movement, which originated from the student protest against the recent NEET exam mishap had reached the penultimate phase. The presence of Rahul Gandhi in the protest yesterday completely change the game as it took a very severe turn.

Rahul shut down at the official residence of Prime Minister Modi and delivered a fierce speech. He was absolutely dynamic and aggressive with his approach, which was missing from him in recent times.

The students protest, which initiated this whole procedure is further strengthened by the support that was announced by the Punjab farmers who also marching to Delhi as they’re also opposing the India-U.S. trade agreement. The amalgamation of student and farmer issues is a recipe for a massive explosion right there.

Congress party has also started to voice their opinions with opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi announcing full support to the protest and also getting physically involved with the same.

Some of the big revolutions in history have come from unexpected avenues, and this ongoing protest also appears to be one such phenomena. It will all come down to how the Congress party takes up this issue from the root level and possibly look to dethrone the NDA government.

For now, the protest is primarily limited to Delhi, and the NDA has sufficient machinery to deal with this. The challenge for Congress is going to be to carry this narrative across the country and then fire at the BJP, which will yield results in the election. But this is an elongated process, which is much easier said than done, so the Congress and its chief Rahul Gandhi have a pretty big challenge on their hands.
