BJP Comes Up With Fact Check on Prakash Raj Allegations

The other day, Actor Prakash Raj alleged that his name was deleted from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. However, a fact check by BJP has now raised questions over the claim.

According to the official clarification from the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, Prakash Raj’s name was present in the electoral roll when the data was frozen for the SIR process.

Officials said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) later verified the details and found that Prakash Raj had shifted from the address mentioned in the voter records. He reportedly had not been living at that address for around four years.

The officials also said that Prakash Raj himself confirmed that he was no longer staying at the registered address and had moved to another location within the Shanthinagar constituency.

The civic body clarified that this does not mean he has lost his right to vote. He can update his address and register his voter details at his current residence by submitting Form 6.

The Bengaluru Central City Corporation said the allegations made in the circulating video were verified and found to be not true.

The fact check has now put the focus back on the importance of keeping voter details updated. Electoral rolls need to reflect the current residential details of voters.

Instead of immediately alleging that votes were deleted, public figures should first verify the facts and check whether their own voter information is up to date.
