Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States has taken a new turn with the Ministry of External Affairs explaining why political clearance was denied.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said visits by chief ministers and other dignitaries are assessed by the ministry before political clearance is granted. The proposed programme and its purpose are taken into consideration.
According to Jaiswal, the programme proposed for Revanth Reddy’s US visit was not considered appropriate with respect to the office he holds and the purpose of the visit.
He made it clear that this was the reason behind the Centre denying political clearance for the United States leg of the tour.
Interestingly, the MEA spokesperson also clarified that permission was granted for Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United Kingdom. The denial was therefore specifically related to the US leg of the tour.
The development has naturally triggered political interest in Telangana, with the Centre’s explanation becoming a fresh talking point. The focus is now on what exactly in the proposed US programme led to the denial of clearance.
