Why Rahul Gandhi Backed Kriti Sanon

Rahul Gandhi has supported actress Kriti Sanon amid the controversy over her Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement.

The controversy started after Kriti appeared in the ad wearing an Indo Western outfit. Some people on social media questioned whether the outfit was suitable for a festival like Raksha Bandhan. BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut also criticised Kriti’s outfit.

Kriti responded that the real meaning of festivals comes from emotions, traditions and relationships, not from what a woman wears. She also questioned why women are still judged based on their clothes.

Rahul Gandhi shared Kriti’s post on his Instagram Story and backed her. He said what a woman wears, what she does and where she goes is her own choice. He also asked people to stop trolling women for exercising their freedom.

With Rahul Gandhi entering the debate, a social media controversy over a Raksha Bandhan advertisement has now turned into a political discussion as well.
