AP Brings Quantum Computing To Ambulance Services

Andhra Pradesh is preparing to use quantum computing technology to make emergency ambulance services faster and more efficient. A pilot project is being taken up under the state’s Quantum Mission, with Guntur selected as the first district for implementation.

The pilot project will cover 67 emergency ambulances operating across Guntur district. Four startup companies are working on the initiative, which aims to use advanced computing to improve the way ambulances are deployed and routed.

At present, ambulances are generally stationed near hospitals in district and mandal centres and are dispatched after receiving an emergency call. The new system aims to make this process more proactive.

The algorithm will study three years of emergency call data to identify locations that frequently require ambulance services. Based on these patterns, ambulances can be strategically positioned closer to areas where emergencies are more likely to occur.

The system will also help ambulance drivers identify the fastest route to the appropriate nearby hospital. Google Maps integration will provide real time information about traffic conditions and alternative routes after an ambulance begins its journey.

The Coherent Ising Machine being installed at the state data centre will be used to run the algorithm. Officials have identified 24 other use cases across different departments as well, with the new system expected to support applications beyond emergency healthcare.
