Konda Surekha Gets Powerful Support Within Congress!

Politics is all about surprises. When it comes to the Congress party, which itself is an ocean, is always packed with surprises. The issue of CM Revanth Reddy and Minister Konda Surekha is out in the open and everyone is aware of it.

CM Revanth Reddy is in Delhi and pushing his best to drop Konda Surekha from his cabinet after her daughter Sushmitha’s critical comments against him. At a time when many thought that Konda Surekha would be dropped in the upcoming cabinet rejig, here comes the interesting development.

Buzz is that Konda Surekha is reportedly getting strong support within the Congress. Two AICC general secretaries, two ministers and a senior Telangana Congress leader are reportedly supporting Surekha and lobbying the party high command against her removal from the Cabinet. Either a change in her portfolio instead of removal from cabinet is being pushed by them. They are also seeking consultations before any decision is taken. 

AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal are closely monitoring the situation as they also received feedback from two ministers who also pushed for consultation with Surekha before any decision. Earlier, one of the AICC general secretaries who also had worked as Telangana state Congress in-charge also pushed for Surekha and also reportedly facilitated for Surekha’s meeting with Kharge at Bengaluru.

Buzz is that one of the senior leaders told Kharge that if Konda Surekha is dropped from the cabinet, she may resign to her MLA seat and to the party. This would certainly raise the political heat in Telangana and force for a by-election in Warangal East constituency. Considering these, Congress top leadership is weighing its options carefully. All these reports have spiced up the whole issue.

Amidst all of these, there are also some reports and speculations that Konda may be offered Deputy Speaker post if not a berth in the cabinet. While the situation is too early, but going by these reports, it is clear that Surekha has got a strong support in the senior leadership who are vouching for her. Let’s wait for the final outcome though.
