Swatantra Bharadwaj Detained, POCSO Case Filed

The issue involving right-wing social media influencer and Hindutva activist Swatantra Bharadwaj has become a major topic of discussion, following allegations of assault, threats and possible political influence. Delhi Police reportedly detained 21-year-old Bharadwaj after a large protest was held outside Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi. The protest was organised by members of the Cockroach Janta Party, Bhim Army and other activists, demanding strict action against him.

The controversy started after an incident that took place during a protest at Jantar Mantar on June 23. Swatantra Bharadwaj and others are accused of attacking Sanjay Azad, 38, who had attended the protest with his 14-year-old daughter, Nishu Azad.

According to Sanjay Azad, he suffered serious head injuries and required seven stitches. He alleged that the attack was severe and accused the police of initially not taking strong action. An FIR was registered on the same day under sections related to causing injury and wrongful restraint. Bharadwaj was briefly detained but later released.

The case gained major attention after a video podcast featuring Bharadwaj went viral on social media. In the clip, Bharadwaj reportedly spoke about the Jantar Mantar incident and made statements about allegedly attacking Sanjay Azad. He also reportedly referred to his political connections. The viral video led to renewed public anger and demands for police action.

However, Bharadwaj has also given his version of the incident. He claimed that he could have been lynched during the CJP protest and later tried to explain his earlier comments about “cracking a skull.”

Sanjay Azad’s 14-year-old daughter, Nishu Azad, has been actively demanding justice for her father. She said the incident deeply affected her personal life and education. According to her, she stopped attending school for several weeks because of the stress and controversy surrounding the case. Nishu also alleged that she received abuse and rape threats from people supporting Bharadwaj. A separate complaint was filed regarding the alleged threats.

Following the complaint, police registered another case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant legal sections. Nishu said she hopes the police will take strong action and ensure her safety.
