New Secretariat Just 100m From CM Vijay’s Residence?

Tamil Nadu has found a new chief minister in the form of Thalapathy Vijay, and he has been making several public friendly decisions of late. On that note, he has been contemplating the shifting of the Secretariat and legislative assembly to Pattinapakam area of Chennai.

The existing secretariat and legislative assembly are located at the heart of the city, and this is resulting in extreme traffic congestion during the assembly sessions due to the presence of public representatives.

The traffic authorities are being called to action in order to maintain the premises during the assembly sessions. This is leading to public traffic movement issues.

So now the latest developments are suggesting that the government is proposing a new site for the construction of the secretariat and the legislative assembly. This area is reportedly just hundred metres away from the official residence of chief minister Vijay.

While there is some criticism over the idea of bringing a major government administrative office closer to the CM’s residence, TVK supporters argue that the proposal is not merely about the CM’s convenience. They say maintaining a shorter distance between the CM’s official residence and the Secretariat could reduce the need for long convoy movements and, in turn, minimise traffic disruptions faced by the public.

The secretariat being so close to the chief minister residence would give space for easy commute at all times. There would be no traffic, disruption or congestion at any given point in time, considering the close proximity of these two establishments.

A social media user suggested that more Chief Ministers could consider having their official residences located close to government administrative offices, such as the Secretariat. This could help them move between their residence and office with minimal disruption to public traffic whenever they step out for official work.
