The Vijayawada SAAP office clash has now raised a bigger question over the presence of people with criminal backgrounds at the protest. Police have reportedly identified around 260 people linked to the incident and found digital evidence against more than 220 of them. So far, 12 people have been arrested.
The more shocking part is that 45 of the identified persons are reportedly rowdy-sheeters. Another 91 people are said to have previous criminal cases, while several others have been identified as troublemakers and active political workers.
The issue started with the YSRCP protest over the Mega DSC sports quota recruitment. At the same time, teachers who were selected through the sports quota had gathered at the SAAP office to defend their appointments and explain their side. They were opposing the allegations being made against their selection and certificates.
The situation turned tense when the two groups came face to face. Reports said there were heated arguments and an altercation, with a teacher reportedly suffering a head injury. The Sports Minister also alleged that stones, eggs and water bottles were thrown at the teachers and that there was an attempt to attack them.
This is where the presence of so many people with criminal backgrounds is raising questions. Police say 45 rowdy-sheeters are among those identified in connection with the incident. But the investigation is still looking into the exact role played by each person.
The biggest question now is simple. How did so many rowdy-sheeters and people with previous criminal cases end up at a protest where teachers had gathered to defend their government jobs?
Were they there on their own or were they brought there by someone?
Police are checking CCTV footage, social media videos, phone details and other digital evidence to establish who took part in the violence and who actually provoked the clashes.
