Greater Hyderabad: Will BRS Regain Its Momentum?

BRS is facing a fresh challenge in Greater Hyderabad as it prepares for the upcoming Khairatabad bypoll and the GHMC elections. After a series of setbacks, the party is now focusing on rebuilding its presence and strengthening its organisation in the city.

The Khairatabad bypoll has added more importance to this exercise. With Danam Nagender’s disqualification paving the way for the election, BRS is working on its candidate selection and ground level preparations.

For BRS, the Khairatabad contest comes at an important time. The party is looking to regain momentum in Hyderabad, while Congress and BJP are also preparing for the three cornered contest. The constituency is expected to be closely watched ahead of the Greater polls.

BRS has already moved into election mode. The party is conducting meetings, discussing candidates and working on voter enrolment for the upcoming Graduate MLC elections. KTR and Harish Rao are also involved in organisational activities as the party prepares for the next electoral battles while party chief KCR operating things from his residence.

At the same time, issues such as the Musi project, HYDRAA actions and land disputes have remained part of the political debate in Hyderabad. BRS has been raising these issues against the Congress government, while the impact of these campaigns on voters will become clearer during the elections.

The bigger challenge for BRS is to rebuild its presence on the ground and keep its cadre together. With Khairatabad coming up and the GHMC elections also on the horizon, the party now has to work on both electoral strategy and organisational strength in Greater Hyderabad.
