KTR’s 3 Hotels Doing More Damage?

KTR’s latest comments on his hotel business may have been aimed at countering CM Revanth Reddy, but politically, they could create a different problem for the BRS leader.

Revanth Reddy the other day spoke about KTR’s business interests and alleged that his family owns luxury hotels, service apartments, valuable lands and farmhouses around Hyderabad. KTR hit back by saying that he has three hotels and there is nothing wrong in doing business to support his family.

KTR also said that if business was his only interest, he could have opened 10 hotels and left politics to concentrate on them. He said his business details were already part of his election affidavit and questioned why Revanth was presenting them as some new discovery.

KTR may see this as a straightforward defence. But politically, the statement can take the discussion in another direction.

The Telangana movement was a long struggle and KCR and his family were at the forefront of the movement for a separate state. After the BRS lost power in 2023, there was considerable public criticism around the party’s leadership, family politics, governance and the wealth of its leaders.

In this backdrop, KTR openly saying that he has three hotels may give his political opponents another point to raise questions about the assets and businesses of the KCR family.

Of course, having a business by itself does not prove any wrongdoing. The bigger question is whether the assets were legally acquired, properly disclosed and whether there was any misuse of political power. Those are issues that require evidence and proper scrutiny.

Interestingly, KTR is also asking for the same scrutiny of Revanth Reddy and his family. His argument is simple: if questions are being raised about one political family’s assets, the same questions should be asked about the other as well.

So, what KTR intended as a counter to Revanth may not end the issue. His “three hotels” remark could actually keep the assets debate alive and give the opposition more ammunition to question the BRS leadership’s wealth and business interests.
