TDP is now planning to fill nominated posts without depending on recommendations or referrals. Party working president and minister Nara Lokesh said that a leader’s track record and commitment to the party will be the main criteria. This is likely to give a fresh boost to the TDP cadre.
Speaking to media representatives at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Undavalli, Lokesh said the groundwork for filling nominated posts is already underway. He said around 150 leaders and ordinary party workers have been identified and all of them will be considered for suitable nominated positions.
According to Lokesh, the party will look at the performance of its workers in the programmes conducted after the alliance government came to power. Those who showed strong commitment and received awards in all six programmes will get the first priority, followed by those who performed well in five and four programmes.
The decision is being seen as a major change in the way nominated posts are usually filled. Until now, party workers often depended on recommendations from local MLAs or senior leaders. Lokesh’s latest approach could give more importance to actual ground level work and performance.
Lokesh also highlighted TDP’s focus on its cadre and said the party has spent around Rupees 200 crore on the welfare of its workers. He claimed that other political parties are now trying to replicate some of the welfare initiatives introduced by TDP for its cadre.
