Visakhapatnam MP Bharat has defended the proposed beach shacks in the city, arguing that tourism development should not be held back by fear and negative campaigning. Speaking to Gulte’s Nishant in an exclusive interview, Bharat said Visakhapatnam has considerable potential to grow into a major tourism destination.
The beach shacks proposal has faced criticism from opposition parties and some public groups over the proposed sale of alcohol near the coastline. Critics have raised concerns about public safety, women’s security and the impact on the family friendly atmosphere of the beaches.
Bharat said the concern, in his view, is not simply about the project but about creating a negative perception around new development ideas. He argued that Visakhapatnam needs to make better use of its coastline and tourism potential to generate economic activity.
He pointed out that hotels, restaurants and other establishments already operate in the city, including places where alcohol is served. He believes regulated beach shacks can be explored without automatically assuming that they will create serious problems.
At the same time, Bharat acknowledged that corruption, indiscipline and violations can occur in any system. He said proper implementation and monitoring are important when introducing a new model, particularly when it involves public spaces.
The TDP MP also explained that elected representatives must take decisions based on their vision and judgment. Public feedback matters, he said, but not every idea can be decided through an online poll. Discussions with citizens can help understand concerns before a plan moves forward.
Bharat argued that repeated opposition and legal challenges can make smaller investors nervous about putting money into new projects. He said Visakhapatnam needs investment and development, and that concerns should be addressed through proper safeguards rather than allowing every new proposal to become a political controversy.
