When there is a situation of extreme social consequence, political leaders are expected to exercise certain caution and dignity. What the opposition man of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan had a very different opinion on this as he brought the political angle into the Raptadu incident.
After interacting with the victim and also her family members in Bengaluru, Jagan addressed the press and he had a series of unexpected remarks. He attributed law and order situation while criticising the government for the incident, which is not what is expected in such a sensitive time.
Jagan went on to say that the uncle of the victim is the mandal representative of YSR Congress, which is a comment that could have been completely avoided at this time.
He gave the implication that the victim was attacked, just because of her uncle being associated with YSR Congress, which is extremely insensitive at this point in time. There was absolutely no need to politicise such a sensitive matter that invited a lot of public outreach in Andhra Pradesh already.
Had Jagan just gone to console the victim and provide moral strength, he would have gained a lot more mileage, but his desired to politicise the issue has backfired already with many negative comments on social media.
