With the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) giving nod to flight operations from Orvakal airport, Kurnool people seem to be the happiest as their long pending dream will be a reality. Further, there is buzz that the High Court would also be relocated to Kurnool after Ugadi, as part of the three capital formula proposed by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Indigo had signed a pact with the Andhra Pradesh government on flying planes from the Kurnool airport and planned to inaugurate the flight services from Dasara last year. However, it had not been possible and then, the government planned to begin the services from January this year which also could not be done.
Now, after getting the permission from the DGCA, Indigo is planning to start flight services from March to Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Bengaluru from March this year. As of now, only Indigo can run flights from the airport.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited is in talks with Spicejet and Trujet officials to expand the flight services from the airport in phases.
The buzz over the airport had increased the price of land on the outskirts of Kurnool.
While the Amaravati farmers have been protesting against the trifurcation of the capital, there are reports that the YCP government is making arrangements for establishing the executive capital in Vizag and judiciary capital in Kurnool.
Now, the talk over likelihood of shifting the judiciary capital after Ugadi and flight operations from Kurnool airport from March is giving double joy to the residents.
