Last week the Centre has permitted the states to open liquor shops and since then people are flocking at them in large numbers. Pictures and videos of people at wine stores have gone viral in the internet and this invited severe criticism from all corners.
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu state government to shut all the wine shops until the threat of Corona virus reduces in the state. Now a petition has been filed in AP High Court too to shut down the wines in the state.
Matru Bhoomi Foundation has filed this petition and urged the High Court to close down the wines with immediate effect. Accepting the petition, the court heard the arguments on the lawyers. The petitioner’s lawyer alleged that the YCP government has failed to take adequate measures in containing the long queues at wine shops .
However, the advocate on behalf of the government informed the High Court, the state government is committed to ban liquor phase wise and accordingly the taxes have increased and the number of shops have been reduced.
After getting down with arguments, High Court asked the government to file counter by tomorrow and also allowed the petitioner to file reply counter on government’s counter. The case has been postponed to Friday.
