Proud Of My Grandma & Dad’s Sacrifices: Rahul

It is common knowledge that the Gandhi dynasty has ruled the country for decades. However, they are struggling and are plagued by issues as the Congress and its hereditary leadership are rejected by people twice. Nevertheless, the Gandhi dynasty continues to have its hold on Congress with Priyanka Gandhi at the helm.

Yesterday, when Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi has said that it is a matter of pride that his grandmother and father had sacrificed their lives for nation as they were standing up for something, it has caused quite a stir among the political analysts. Rahul Gandhi further stated that all the trolls and ridicules on him are nothing but a boost and will only help him towards being a successful leader.

Rahul spoke on the Gandhi dynasty during a virtual interaction with Dipesh Chakrabarty of University of Chicago. “I’m proud that my grandmother and father had sacrificed their lives while standing and defending something. It helps me understand them and my responsibility and what I should be doing. There are no regrets,” Rahul stated.

The total tenure of Gandhis’ in PM office has been 37 years. In a similar context, Rahul Gandhi said it has been over 30 years that a member of their family was in the office of prime minister. He was asked about how does he relate to someone who belongs to a dynasty. Gandhi replied, “How is it interesting to me because the last time a member of my family was a prime minister was 30 plus years ago”.

He later spoke on his experience in politics. “As I’ve gone further in this journey, those ideas are crystallizing more. If you were to ask me why I would think of joining politics 15-20 years ago, my answer would be very different from what it would be today,” he added.
