While the Panchayat elections are still in progress, the AP State Election Commission has released the notification for Municipal elections in the state. However, last year on March 11th the AP SEC released the notification and the latest one is an extension to it. A total of 12 corporations and 75 municipalities will be going for the polling as per the latest notification.
Tirupathi, Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Greater Visakha, Vizaianagaram, Eluru, Chhitoor, Ongole, Vijayawada, Machilipatnam and Guntur are the corporations that will be going for the polling while Nellore, Rajahmundry corporations elections are upheld due to court cases. A total of 671 divisions are listed in these 12 corporations and based on last year’s notification 6563 people have filed the nominations.
Coming to the municipalities, In 75 municipalities, there are 2123 wards and 12,086 people have filed nominations. The SEC has allotted March 2nd and 3rd for withdrawal of nominations.
The polling will be held on March 10th and the results will be declared on March 14th. For re-polling the SEC has allotted March 13th date.
