E-Voting To Be Real Soon, EC Confirms

In order to make more people participate in the voting process, the Election Commission of India is planning to come up with a revolutionary concept. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora stated the other day that they are planning to offer the remote voting facility by the 2024 general elections.

The remote voting facility enables people who cannot be at their polling booths on the voting day for any reason, to cast their vote online. Arora said the pilot project may start in the next 2-3 months. He stated that a team of technocrats and experts from IIT Chennai and the other IITs are working on this project. He also added that EC is planning to roll out NRI voting soon.

A few discussions between the EC, Law and External Affairs Ministries are going on regarding the same. We can expect it to be amended pretty soon. CEC also welcomed the law ministry’s support in linking voter IDs to Aadhar. He said that this method avoids the multiplicities of voter ID of the same person.
