6 Lakh Vaccine Doses Sent To AP

As the Covid-19 cases witnessing a massive surge, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy has dropped a bomb that the state has run out of vaccine doses. 
CM Jagan wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting the Union Government to provide 60 lakh vaccine doses for AP. He said that AP administered as low as 4300 vaccine doses on Friday which is lowest so far.

“I request you, sir, to instruct the officials concerned of Health Ministry to supply 60 lakh doses of COVID vaccine to my state to ensure that all the population above 45 years is vaccinated for the first dose in the next three weeks,” CM Jagan wrote to Prime Minister, the second letter he sent to the PM in a week. He also informed the PM that not a drop of vaccine was left in the state.

AP had set a target of vaccinating 24 lakh people during the four-day ‘Tika Utsav’ (April 11 to 14).

“We have drawn out an action plan to cover six lakh people (four lakh in rural and two lakh in urban areas) per day during the Tika Utsav,” CM Jagan had told the Prime Minister in his previous letter dated on April 9th. AP had failed to achieve the target as both the Covaxin and Covishield stocks went dry during the Tika Utsav.  AP had vaccinated 6,28,961 people on April 14, “the highest single day COVID vaccination numbers by any state in the country”.

In the last 24 hours, Andhra Pradesh has reported 6096 covid positive cases after testing 35,962 samples. 20 Covid-related deaths were reported in 24 hours and the death toll touched 7373. The Covid positivity rate in AP stood at 6.08 per cent.

Meanwhile, AP has received 5 lakh doses of Covi Shield from Serum Institute of India, Pune and 1 lakh doses of Covaxin from Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech today.
