34-Year-Old Son Of Sitaram Yechury Dies Of Covid-19

CPI(M) senior leader and General Secretary Sitaram Yechury is bereaved. Yechury’s elder son Ashish Yechury (34) succumbed to Covid-19. After a two-week battle with the novel disease, Ashish breathed his last today morning at 5.30am which is sudden and unexpected. According to reports, Ashish was recovering well and was responding to treatment well at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital. However, he died in the wee hours which came as a shock to his family, friends and dear ones.

“It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us,” Sitaram Yechury shared the tragic news.

Political leaders cutting across political lines have expressed profound condolences and wished strength in these tough times for Yechury’s family. Ashish was said to be simple and down-to-earth and never used his family surname or father’s name outside, said sources in the know.
