The news reports emerged saying former Underworld Don and erstwhile gangster Chhota Rajan has died of Covid-19. An AIIMS official rubbished the rumors and clarified that Chhota Rajan is very much alive and is getting treated at AIIMS for Covid treatment.
Chhota Rajan is being treated for Covid-19 at AIIMS as he was admitted there after testing positive for the virus on April 26. Rajan getting admission into AIIMS drew controversy as several common people suffered to get admission into hospitals with a surge in Covid-19 cases across the country.
Rajan was arrested in 2015 in Indonesia and was brought to India. He was jailed in Tihar prison in Delhi since then. Last year, Rajan was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of jounalist J Dey in 2011.
Rajan had worked for notorious gangster and India’s most-wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Rajan was once a right-hand man for Dawood. However, they had split and Rajan had formed his independent gang that led to their clash.
Rajan was an accused in at least 70 criminal cases in Maharashtra with connection to extortion and murder. He was supposed to attend a sessions court hearing on 26th April via video-conference. However, Tihar jail officials had informed the court that he could not be produced for the hearing as he had tested positive for Covid-19.
