Bangladesh Beats India In Per-capita Income

Contrary to the statements made by the government of India, the country is facing a severe economic crunch right now. If we speak about the present situation, an average citizen of Bangladesh now earns more than an Indian. According to the latest reports, the per-capita income of Bangladesh is higher than India right now.

Bangladesh reported a per-capita income of $2227 for the financial year 2020-21, which is 9% higher than its per-capita income of $2064 of 2019-20. Comparatively, India reported a per-capita income of $1947.417 during 2020-21. The government stated that the economic contraction is due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bangladesh’s Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam stated, “Our per capita income stands at $2,227 in fiscal 2020-21; the previous fiscal year’s per capita income was $2,064. So, the growth rate is 9 percent.”

Per-capita income is an average income earned by a person in the country. It is calculated by dividing the country’s national income by its population.

Bangladesh’s per-capita income was half of that of India in 2007. Within a gap of 14 years, it now surpassed the per-capita income of India in terms of dollars.
