A 14-year-old boy in Kerala died from amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare brain infection caused by a free-living amoeba found in contaminated waters. He contracted the infection after swimming in a pond. This is the third such death in Kerala in the past three months, following the deaths of two girls in May and June.
