Scientists have discovered a worrying level of contamination in Hyderabad’s lakes, rivers, and open drains. Water samples revealed bacteria carrying 89 different antibiotic-resistance genes, raising serious public health concerns. Experts warn that such resistance can make common infections harder to treat and could spread through contaminated water, highlighting the urgent need for better wastewater management and pollution control.
