V. C. Sajjanar has warned the public not to be misled by shiny mangoes in markets. Officials say some traders use chemicals like calcium carbide to artificially ripen fruits. Medical experts warn such mangoes can cause throat irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Authorities urged consumers to buy naturally ripened fruits and report suspicious sales.
