IPL: Last Two League Matches To Be Held Simultaneously

For the first time in the history of the league, the final two league matches of IPL will start simultaneously. Earlier, the league phase was scheduled to be ended with a doubleheader, where one game starts at 03.30 PM IST and 07.30 PM IST. As per the new change, both games will start at 07.30 PM IST, on October 8.

The BCCI has announced the news in a press statement released yesterday. It is said that the decision has been taken to avoid giving an unfair advantage to any team if in case the last match of the league decides the playoff qualification by a mathematical chance.

“In a first for the IPL, the last two league matches before the VIVO IPL 2021 Playoffs will be played concurrently. On the last day of the league stage (08.10.2021) of the ongoing season, instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match, two matches (SRH v MI and RCB v DC) will be played simultaneously at 7.30 PM IST (6.00 PM GST),” stated BCCI in the press release.

As of now, Chennai Super Kings stands at the top of the table with eight wins from its 10 games.

It is followed by Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in the next three positions.

On the flip side, Sunrisers Hyderabad is in the last position with just 2 wins off their 10 games.
