Telugu cricketers are often ignored in the Indian Premier League. We can literally count Telugu players who have made a mark in the IPL. Even in the recently held mega auction, Telugu players didn’t make much noise. Only Ambati Rayudu was the prominent local player who did well in the auction.
Apart from Rayudu, there are a few other players from Hyderabad and Andhra teams who were picked by different teams. Here is a look at them.
KS Bharat:
Kona Srikar Bharat is a prominent player in the domestic circuit. He shot to popularity after his performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last edition of IPL. He is remembered for his famous last-ball six against Delhi Capitals.
Bharat represents the Andhra cricket team in the domestic circuit. He scored 457 runs in the 37 T20 matches he played. He was bought by Delhi Capitals the other day for a price of Rs. 2 crores. That is indeed a good deal after entering the auction with a base price of Rs. 20 lakh.
Ashwin Hebbar:
Another Telugu player who struck a deal in the auction is Ashwin Hebbar. This Nellore-based player represents the Andhra team in the domestic arena. He was the highest run-score for Andhra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons. He was bought by Delhi for a base price of Rs. 20 lakhs.
Tilak Varma:
This stylish left-hand batter did well for the Hyderabad team in the domestic leagues. As a result, he was picked by Mumbai Indians for a price of Rs. 1.7 crore.
CV Milind:
Chama Milind is the son of Hyderabad’s Commissioner of Police, CV Anand. The left-arm pacer was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 25 lakhs.
Bhagath Varma:
This Hyderabadi off-spinning all-rounder was picked by Chennai Super Kings for a base price of Rs. 20 lakhs.
Rahul Buddhi:
Rahul is a middle-order batter who represents Hyderabad. He is picked by Mumbai Indians for a base price of Rs. 20 lakhs.
Surprisingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t buy any Telugu player from Hyderabad and Andhra Teams.
