Asia Cup: India Is Almost Out Of The Tournament

Defending champion Team India got virtually knocked out of the Asia Cup 2022. After losing to Pakistan in the first Super 4 game, India now got defeated by Sri Lanka. In a last-over thriller, India lost by 6 wickets. With this win, Sri Lanka almost confirmed its berth in the final.

After losing the toss, India was asked to bat first. It was a disastrous start as both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli got out within the first three overs. The score was 13/2. That’s when Rohit Sharma (72) and Surya Kumar Yadav (34) settled the innings. While the latter played cautiously, Rohit went berserk whenever he got a loose ball. Both of them made a partnership of 97 runs for the third wicket. Rohit got out after looking well settled in the crease. Soon, SKY also went back to the pavilion. In the death overs, Sri Lankans bowled well and restricted India from scoring a big score. As the middle order batters failed miserably, India was confined to 173/8 in 20 overs.

With an opening stand of 97 runs, Pathum Nissanka (52) and Kusal Mendis (57) gave a phenomenal start to Sri Lanka in the chase. In the process, they have scored their respective fifties as well. Finally, Yuzi Chahal (3/34) broke this partnership and got both wickets at regular intervals. Later, Lanka lost two more wickets in no time. As a result, the score became 110/4 and India came back into the game. But, the happiness didn’t last long as Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka made a sensational partnership of 64 runs and won the game for their team. With their effort, Sri Lanka scored 174/4 in 19.5 overs.

For India to qualify for the finals:

  1. India should beat Afghanistan.
  2. Sri Lanka should beat Pakistan.
  3. Afghanistan beat Pakistan.
  4. India’s NRR should be greater than Afghanistan and Pakistan.
