Usually, Ranji Trophy matches in India don’t attract large crowds at the stadium. This is mainly because star cricketers from the Indian team often skip the domestic league. However, this time, even senior national team players are participating, which has sparked a noticeable change. Recently, Rohit Sharma played for Mumbai in a Ranji match, and now it’s Virat Kohli’s turn to play for his home team, Delhi.
Kohli is playing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match on behalf of Delhi, and the response has been nothing short of insane. Reports indicate that crowds stretched up to 2 kilometers outside the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, eager to watch the cricket star.
Normally, Ranji matches in Delhi attract fewer than 2,000 to 3,000 spectators, as interest tends to be low. But with Kohli’s presence, the atmosphere has completely shifted, and massive crowds gathered outside the stadium.
The entry for the match is free, as it’s a domestic fixture, with the BCCI traditionally waiving entry fees for such games. This has contributed to the overwhelming turnout. Delhi is facing the Railways Cricket Team today, and Kohli is a part of the Delhi squad.
