India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, made history during the second ODI against England in Cuttack on Sunday. He became the second most prolific six-hitter in ODI cricket history, surpassing Chris Gayle. Prior to the match, both were tied with 331 sixes, but Rohit broke the record in the second over of India’s chase when he hit a six off Gus Atkinson.
Rohit now holds the record for most sixes across formats, having hit 624 maximums in T20Is, ODIs, and Test matches. Additionally, he leads the six-hitting charts in T20Is with 205 sixes in 151 innings.
In the match, Rohit also reached his 32nd ODI century, playing an explosive innings. He scored 110 runs off 80 balls, including 10 fours and 7 sixes. His century was completed with a six, marking his second-fastest ODI century, completed in 76 balls. His previous fastest was 63 balls against Afghanistan in 2023. The match saw Rohit’s dominant batting, as he guided India’s chase toward a competitive target.
