India’s First Champions Trophy Win: Gill’s Century Steals the Show

India kicked off their Champions Trophy campaign with a solid win. In their first match against Bangladesh in Dubai, they secured a six-wicket victory, chasing down the 229-run target in just 46.3 overs. Shubman Gill played a key role, staying unbeaten on 101 off 129 balls. This was his eighth ODI century.

Batting first, Bangladesh was bowled out for 228 in 49.4 overs. Towhid Hridoy stood out with a brilliant 100 off 118 balls, supported by Zakir Ali’s 68. But the rest of the batting lineup struggled. Mohammed Shami was outstanding, taking five wickets, while Harshit Rana picked up three and Axar Patel got two.

India’s chase started well with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting up a strong opening. Rohit made 41 before falling to Taskin Ahmed. Virat Kohli added 22, while Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8) couldn’t contribute much. But Gill stayed firm and, along with KL Rahul, took India home comfortably.

Gill played a disciplined innings, reaching his century in 125 balls, relying more on singles than boundaries. Rahul also remained unbeaten on 41, and their 92-run partnership sealed the win.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain took two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman got one each. But Gill’s steady knock ensured their efforts went in vain. With this win, India has made a strong start in the tournament and will now face Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai.
