Big Upset in CT2025: Afghanistan Stuns England

The biggest upset of the ongoing edition of the champions trophy 2025 is here. Afghanistan has managed to defeat England in a close encounter that drew to a close, just a few minutes back.

After being put into bat first, Afghanistan got to 325 runs thanks to some brilliant batting from Ibrahim Zadran who scored 177 runs from 146 balls.

In pursuit of this tall target, England was in the hunt for most parts thanks to Joe Root, who scored 120 off 111. But he did not have too much company at the crease as all other English batters stuttered big time.

In the end, England needed, 16 runs from 12 balls with two wickets in hand. But Afghanistan held their nerve and managed to defend the score by confining England, to 309 runs. Consequently, Afghanistan won the game by emerging of 8 runs.

This goes down as one of the biggest victories in the history of Afghanistan cricket as defeating a mainstream nation, like England in the ICC event is not an easy task. Adding to this misery, England is now out of the tournament after having lost the first two games. Afghanistan have put on a fighting display, and they have to be appreciated for the same.
