The BCCI had been frequently imposing the “no family” rule for the Indian squad while travelling on elaborate overseas tours and tournaments. It is an informal term referring to restrictions on players, coaches, and support staff regarding the presence of family members during certain tours or tournaments. The same was imposed in the recent champions trophy as well, which india ended up winning.
However, team India’s talismanic player Virat Kohli had a strong opinion on this matter as he appeared to be vouching against this regulation of the BCCI which he says is not fully functional.
When asked about this topic at a recent summit, Kohli replied “It’s hard to put into words how grounding it feels to return to your family after experiencing something intense in the outside world. It’s like a reset—no matter what happens, being with them brings a sense of stability and reassurance.”
Kohli was of the policing that having families by their side gives players that extra layer of relaxation which is required for focus and attention. “I don’t think people fully understand the kind of impact having our families with us during such intense times has.”
Notably, Kohli’s wife Anushka was at the Dubai international stadium recently for the champions trophy. And so was Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh. But they had to travel at an individual capacity due to the BCCI’s restriction.
