It’s big news for Chennai Super Kings fans as MS Dhoni returns as the team’s captain after two years. The incumbent captain of the team, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow fracture. Thus, Dhoni will be leading the side for the rest of the season. When Dhoni’s retirement news has been circulating in the media, it is now confirmed that he is not leaving but coming back as captain, which is a huge factor.
More details about Ruturaj’s injury are yet to be reported. Though his exclusion will be a huge blow for CSK as they lose a top-class batter, Dhoni’s return as captain would definitely be big news.
The last time Dhoni captained the side, CSK went on to win the trophy in 2023. But there is a herculean task ahead for Dhoni to take CSK to the playoffs this time as the team lost four of its first five games. It needs to win at least seven out of the next nine games to be in playoff contention.
CSK has been off the track this season due to its poor performances with the bat. Neither the top-order nor the middle-order batters were able to get their team to the victory shores in the last four games. Dhoni’s batting was also not up to the mark.
