We are nearly reaching the business end of the IPL with the league stage scheduled to come to an end in the next couple of weeks. In this context, let us have a look at the playoffs contention scenario for each of the 10 teams in the ongoing season of IPL.

1. Gujarat Titans (GT)

  • Points: 12 (from 8 matches)
  • Net Run Rate (NRR): +1.413
  • Very strong position; 2 more wins will likely confirm playoffs.

2. Delhi Capitals (DC)

  • Points: 12 (from 8 matches)
  • NRR: +1.278
  • Looking solid; need 2 wins to secure playoffs.

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

  • Points: 12 (from 9 matches)
  • NRR: +0.539
  • In good form; 2 more wins will almost guarantee a spot.

4. Mumbai Indians (MI)

  • Points: 10 (from 9 matches)
  • NRR: +0.309
  • In the race; need consistency in remaining games.

5. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

  • Points: 10 (from 8 matches)
  • NRR: +0.289
  • Well-placed; a few more wins will keep them strong in the race.

  • Almost out; need a miracle run and other results to go their way.

  • Playoff hopes nearly over; would need to win all and depend on others.

Chennai and Rajasthan are nearly out of the tournament, and that is for certain, it appears. The rest of the teams in the middle of the table are fighting for survival, and it has to be seen how many of them would actually progress to the play-offs
