When it was announced that India will be without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the ongoing test series against England, it was widely expected that England would win this series. In accordance with this England, comprehensively won the first test match.
But India bounced back with the significant win in the second test match and is now in a pretty strong position in the third match as well.
After being set a target of 193 runs in the fourth innings, it look like a straightforward chase for India. But due to some poor batting from India, in the closing stages of the game, they lost four wickets for just 58 runs.
The situation now is tightly poised as India needs another 135 runs to win the third test match and they have six wickets in hand. The good thing here is that the solid and composed KL Rahul is still at the crease and as long as he is around, India will be in pole position.
Another crucial thing here is that India needs to find some pretty strong contributions from Rishabh Pant, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. If these two youngsters can fire, then the game is pretty much there to be won.
Winning the third test match would be a golden ticket for India to potentially win this series, and it would be a significant achievement for the Indian test team in recent years. Also, it would be a grand welcome to the new captain Shubman Gill, who can create history by winning this series.
But at the same time, English bowlers will be looking to make things all the more serious for Indian batsmen on the fifth day. So it has to be seen how this game would evolve in the next few hours.
