A Big Concern Ahead For Sanju In Asia Cup?

There are countless complaints against the selection of the Indian T20 team for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. On one hand, the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh is already being called out on social media, and now we are hearing an interesting report on Sanju Samson. 

Former team India player and principal selector for the team, Ajith Agarkar revealed that Sanju Samson might not necessarily feature in the top order of the batting lineup.

Ajith revealed that Sanju was a part of the T20 set up and opening the innings in the absence of Shubman Gill in the recent past. However, this was primarily due to the unavailability of Shubhman due to injury.

“Now that vice captain Shubman Gill is back in the team, we have to see how they would formulate the batting lineup. It is their headache to select the top order now.” Ajit said. 

This could be an indication of the fact that Sanju Samson might not be a part of the opening lineup or even the final XI itself, due to the presence of Shubhman Gill. 

Considering that it would make no sense to have Shubman Gill as the vice captain and not play him in the team, it needs to be said that Sanju will have to make place for the vice captain. The other opening slot is obviously going to be taken by Abhishek Sharma, so there is no respite for Sanju here. 

It appears that Sanju has been picked in the squad just as a backup opener, and he might not necessarily feature in the final 11. This is another blow to a consistent performer for India, Sanju who can also keep the wickets. 

Well, it is safe to say that the team selection for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament is a complete shambolic show to say the least.
