Most Infamous ‘Slap’ In IPL Dug Up After 17 Years!

In its elaborate history that lasted nearly 2 decades, already, IPL has witnessed some of the most controversial and infamous incidents in Cricket. One such incident that became a topic of discussion was the infamous slap of Harbhajan Singh and bowler Sreeshanth. 

This incident happened in the 2008 season when Harbhajan Singh slapped Sreeshanth after a game, and this video created a sensation back then. This was a result of a heated altercation that happened in the game that propelled Harbhajan to slap the bowler after the game. 

Now nearly 17 years after the incident, it came to discussion again while the former president of IPL Lalit Modi had an interaction with Australian player, Michael Clark. 

When Clark asked Modi to clarify on this in famous slap incident, the latter revealed that it was indeed true. “Yes, Harbhajan had indeed slapped Sreeshanth. It was a very untoward and uncharacteristic incident, and I imposed eight-game ban on Harbhajan. I did not like the intent that was displayed and wanted to give a strong signal by imposing a strong punishment.” Lalit Modi confirmed. 

However, this revisit to the incident by Lalit Modi and Michael Clark was not received kindly by Sreeshanth’s wife Bhuvaneswari. She replied that the family is having to relieve the trauma from 18 years ago, due to this new interaction.

Sreeshanth has rebuilt his life with dignity and grace after every hardship he faced. As his wife, and as the mother of his children, it is deeply painful for our family to see this resurface after 18 long years.

Families are being forced to relive trauma that was buried decades ago only so you can chase views. This doesn’t just hurt the players, it scars their innocent children who now have to face questions and shame for no fault of theirs. You should be sued for doing something so cheap and inhumane. 

Sreesanth is a man of strength and character, and no video can take that dignity away from him.
