For a really long time now, Vizag has been one of the underrated venues in the Indian cricket team scene. Despite having a good infrastructure, not much effort went into making the Vizag international Stadium a true destination for Cricket lovers.
But things started to change quickly after the onset of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh as Lokesh took special interest in developing the Cricket infrastructure. Lokesh personally interacted with that BCCI president and current ICC chairman Jay Shah extensively to expand Cricket operations in Vizag.
This originally started with the hosting of the IPL games(Delhi Capitals games) in Vizag and this slowly expanded into International Cricket now.
The best thing here is that the Vizag Stadium hosted the best game of the ongoing women’s cricket World Cup last night. The crunch encounter between India and South Africa was held at this very Vizag Stadium and it turned out to be thriller.
This is the best game of the tournament till now as it went right till the very end. India might have lost the game, but the thrill value that it delivered to the viewers is beyond that.
Vizag Stadium proved that it has the infrastructure and pitch conditions to produce great games of Cricket. With proper planning and maintenance, Vizag Stadium could potentially become a cricket hub for Indian cricket and would truly help in bringing global recognition to the city, as a whole.
