The final date for the completion of the retaining list ahead of the IPL auction got concluded on November 15, and all the teams have officially communicated their final squads. There were a handful of surprises with regard to the team retention done by a few franchises but for now let’s discuss the financial side of things.
In terms of the money that is left with the IPL teams to purchase players in the auction in December, it is Kolkata, which is miles ahead of everyone.
KKR – 64.3cr.
CSK – 43.4cr.
SRH – 25.5cr.
LSG – 22.95cr.
DC – 21.8cr.
RCB – 16.4cr.
RR – 16.05cr.
GT – 12.9cr.
PBKS – 11.5cr
MI – 2.75cr
After releasing super costly players like Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell Kolkata is left with as much as 64 crore in its purse. They can virtually buy anyone in the upcoming auction, and this is going to be a big advantage.
Chennai also has a comfortable 43 crore in the purse. More importantly, they have been able to trade Sanju Samson for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. They will also have a significant advantage in the auction. Then we have Hyderabad Lucknow, which have 25 and 22 crore respectively.
It is going to be a tough auction for Mumbai Indians who have just 2.75 crore left in the purse. They can’t buy any quality players and will have to stick to buying a handful of reserve players.
