Can Ruturaj Save CSK This Time?

The Chennai Super Kings franchise is undergoing a significant makeover with the trade agreement to bring Sanju Samson from Rajasthan and send out Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Further, it has been communicated that Ruturaj Gaikwad is the new captain of the team.

Ruturaj actually became the captain of Chennai back in 2024 itself, but this operation was not successful. Chennai didn’t just have bad results, but the pressure was so very impending that Ruturaj had to step down, and Dhoni had to take up the captaincy position again. 

Considering the fact that Dhoni is nearing his retirement, regardless of the fact that he made continue for a season or two, Chennai badly needs a captain and they appear to be fully trusting in Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Gaikwad is an extremely talented batsman, and he has been performing very well, even in the domestic circuit. But leading an IPL team, as big as Chennai is a really tough task and it has to be seen if this talented batsmen would be able to prove himself sufficient at least this time.

Adding to that, there will be mounted pressure on him, considering that Sanju Samson, who previously operated as Rajasthan captain is coming to Chennai this time. He could be seen as the replacement of Dhoni as a wicket-keeper and potentially also as the captain.

With so many things happening in the background, Rudra Raja Gaikwad will have to be absolutely on top of his game to deliver the desired results for Chennai. His performance as the captain in the 2026 season will prove to be decisive with regard to his future as the captain.
