Team India is looking like a completely different beast altogether if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in the team. This is evident if we look at the way India bounced back in the ODI series after the horrifying test series lost to South Africa.
In this context, the former batting coach of Indian cricket team, Sanjay Bangar made a very interesting comment in the context of the growing debate about the presence of Rohit and Kohli in the team.
Sanjay stated that both Rohit and Kohli deserve to be treated “differently” within the team, considering the kind of contribution that they had made.
This comment comes at a time when there are reports that Gautham Gambhir and his coaching team felt senior players might not fit into the ODI team for the World Cup due to their fitness and form issues. This is perhaps an indicator of the fact that both Rohit and Kohli are acting very gingerly with Gambhir in the ODI games.
Sanjay stated that both Kohli and Rohit had done great things to Indian cricket team and deserve to be treated differently from the rest of the players. This is perhaps a contradiction for the fact that Gambhir wanted to build a team without any superstars.
What is for certain is that the ideology of Gambhir might not have sat well with Kohli and Rohit. But nevertheless, these two veterans are performing beyond expectations on the field and the change in personnel is clearly helping the ODI team.
