New Captain for Team India? What’s Happening?

Despite having won the recent T20 World Cup, the Indian T20 team had been largely volatile and unpredictable. Especially the captain of the team, Surya Kumar Yadav has been an absolutely pathetic form in the recent past. 

This has now led to speculations about the possibility of Surya Kumar Yadav being replaced as the Indian T20 captain and the same is to be understood from national media reports. 

According to a few leading national media channels, the team management and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are contemplating the idea of removing Surya as the captain and replacing him.

This comes shortly before the announcement of the T20 squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup that is starting in February. This is the reason why the speculation about Surya getting removed as the Captain has grabbed all the attention on social media. 

If Surya is indeed removed as the captain of the T20 team, then it could be a significant changeover in team dynamic just before the World Cup.

While it is a fact that Surya had not been putting up good performances, he is still a senior player and more importantly, a team needs a consistent captain, particularly before a major ICC tournament. So it has to be seen if the Indian management would take this big decision at this point in time.
