1 day Deadline: Will We See New Team in T20 WC?

The T20 World Cup that is going to be commencing in the first week of February has started to run into controversies already. One of the participating nations of the tournament, Bangladesh has started to create a scene at the international level.

Bangladesh cricket board has appealed to the ICC, saying that they have security issues on travelling to India. In this context, the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team communicated that they are not sure whether to travel to India or not.

In this context, it is understood that the ICC has told the Bangladesh Cricket Board to inform the Bangladesh government whether if the country continues to refuse to travel to India to play its matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup, then it will be replaced by another team at the tournament.

That decision was followed by a voting, where the majority of the ICC Board was in favour of having a replacement. BCB have been given one more day to come back to the ICC on its stance on playing in India.

In case Bangladesh refuses to travel to India, then they will be automatically removed from the tournament and Scotland will be added to the fixtures as they’re the next placed team.

More importantly, Bangladesh would face repercussions from the Indian cricket board in the future, which should be of huge loss to them financially. So it has to be seen if Bangladesh Cricket would take this massive risk at this point in time.
