For a long time, there has been a lot of suspense about the prospect of holding the IPL games at the famous Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This is due to the horrifying stampede that happened at the stadium last year during the RCB victory parade.
However, the latest clarification from the Karnataka government is suggesting that the IPL is going to return to the Chinnaswamy Stadium very soon.
According to the latest developments, the Karnataka Cabinet has given approval to KSCA to host IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the Cabinet has taken an important decision to permit the conduct of IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, keeping public safety as the top priority.
He stated that the government will implement the recommendations of the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Report, with strict adherence to norms related to ticketing, crowd regulation, and stadium access. Emphasizing responsibility and accountability, he said the Cabinet has moved forward in the interest of the sport and cricket fans across Bengaluru and Karnataka.
This would essentially mean that the Chinna Swami Stadium could be hosting the IPL games in the near future, but the maximum attendance will be locked at around 35,000.
Apart from that, the Karnataka government will also be instructing the police department to enforce strict regulations outside the venue in order to avoid such incidents in the future.
While RCB has been contemplating other stadiums in Maharashtra and Rajasthan to host their IPL games, it has to be seen if this cabinet approval would bring the RCB IPL cricket back to Bengaluru.
