The ongoing T20 World Cup is progressing under highly volatile conditions due to the prevailing war in the Middle East. Because of blocked airspace, several international flights have been cancelled or rescheduled, affecting World Cup teams.
Incidentally, West Indies players and coaching staff, including Darren Sammy and Sherfane Rutherford, had been complaining about getting stuck in India for a long period.
Now it is the turn of South African players, including Quinton de Kock, to complain about the same issue as he took to social media to speak out. He posted an Instagram story today saying the England cricket team, which was eliminated a couple of days ago, managed to return home while South African and West Indies players are still stuck in India.
It is quite unusual to see several players and coaching staff associated with the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup expressing frustration about staying back in India. They are clearly not in the mood to remain in the country any longer, and they do have a point.
However, these frequent social media posts have triggered Indian netizens. “What is the problem for these players to stay in luxury hotels with the best quality food? Would they not stay in India for several months during the Indian Premier League? How is the situation any different?” an anguished social media user posted.
At the end of the day, while common people may have different opinions on this matter, it is the players and coaching staff who have to deal with the situation first hand, and they are naturally bound to have their own opinions.
