Dead Hype, But Big Hopes: Can IPL Deliver?

The stage is set for the start of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League, and this comes at an extremely complex point in time. This could perhaps go as one of the historic IPL season, partly due to the external factors.

Generally, when the IPL is happening, it is the only source of mass entertainment and public discussion. But this time we have the ongoing places in the western Asia, which has resulted in oil and gas crisis across the globe, including India which is facing the heat.

People are more concerned about public problems due to gas and oil shortage, and also we have the Assembly elections coming up in five states shortly. There are too many distracting options here.

But amidst all the chaos and external factors that are in place, it needs to be said that the IPL could not have come at a better point of relief for the Cricket loving population. Considering the volume of Cricket entertainment, and the presence of superstars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni great things are expected of this season. 

It has now reached saturation point where people are completely occupied with external issues including commodities disruption and political warfare. So a major distracting point here could be the high octane IPL. 

Adding to that this edition of IPL is going to be marginally longer with additional games than last year. So the number of cricketing days will also go up, adding to the excitement factor. 

As of now, there is absolutely no hype or social media discussion going into the upcoming game between RCB and Hyderabad starting tomorrow. But over the last few years, IPL had been gaining momentum and attention through the passage of the tournament and fans will be hoping that same will be the case this year as well.
