The ongoing ODI series between India and England carried a lot of anticipation due to the fact that it marked the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the ODI team. However, this match did not go as planned as both Rohit and Kohli got out early.
England batted first and set a target of 258, which is very moderate score against a formidable team like India. So everyone expected a batting master class from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in this crucial opening game of the series.
However, Rohit Sharma got out within the powerplay and could score only 11 runs while Virat Kohli also followed him shortly after by scoring, just five runs. Neither of these superstars were able to satisfy their fans who had been waiting for months together to watch them in action for India.
Considering the fact that Rohit and Virat are only playing the ODI format of the game are going to be seen in Indian colours, only a few times in a year. So every time they step out to bat for India, great things are expected of them.
However, neither Kohli nor Rohit were able to deliver a standing performance in this opening game against England as they have both disappointed big time. This is perhaps due to the fact that they had been away from the international Cricket action for a long time, and there is a bit of rustiness in both of them.
India is currently chasing the target of 258 runs with the scorecard reading 100-2. Captain Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyers are currently at the crease.
