Indian football team is yet to feature in the prestigious FIFA World Cup. Yet, the craze for the game across the country reaches a fever pitch when the high-stakes World Cup kicks off. This year is no different.
As the stage is set down for the final showdown between Argentina and Spain this Sunday midnight, many states have decided to grant some relaxations for the public to enjoy the epic clash.
While some states have officially permitted restaurants, cafes, and bars across to remain open till 4 AM, the Kerala government has now declared holiday on Monday for all schools and colleges across the state on the eve of FIFA final.
Chief Minister VD Satheesan directed that schools and professional colleges remain closed for the day to accommodate students and staff following the late-night broadcast. An official statement about this announcement has already been released by the government.
While classes have been suspended to accommodate the late-night schedule, the government clarified that any previously scheduled examinations will proceed as planned.
The Telangana state government already issued a special circular extending operating hours for licensed establishments in the core urban region of Hyderabad to stay open and host live public screenings until 4:30 AM IST.
While these relaxations are welcomed by Football fans, mixed reactions are emerging from the general public as they are questioning why the governments are embracing such a culture which is of no use to students.
